Industry News – Antiquorum to Open its Fall Auction Season in New York
Antiquorum will open its fall season with a sale of Collector’s Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks on Wednesday, September 24th followed by an A-auction online on Thursday, September 25th. Both auctions will feature a collection of 300 modern and vintage timepieces. Viewings will be held in Beverly Hills and New York.
Over 75 brands are expected to hit the auction block, including an important number of wristwatches by the Parisian “watch-architect”, Alain Silberstein.
The contemporary style and design of this former interior architect and designer, turned watchmaker, is reflected in two unique wristwatches from the 1990’s, dubbed “The Day” and “The Night” Tourbillon. Both one-of-a-kind watches, in brushed stainless steel, feature a visible one-minute tourbillon regulator and are each estimated to bring $65,000 to $85,000 on auction day.
Other highly desirable wristwatches include two examples from Patek Philippe, Ref. 5039’s. These rare, astronomic, automatic watches feature a perpetual calendar and moon phase. The example in yellow gold has been estimated at $24,000 to $28,000 and the white gold example is estimated to bring $26,000 to $30,000.
Audemars Piguet is represented in the auction by an elegant, rectangular-shaped “Canapé Tourbillon” wristwatch in 18kt pink gold. Only 25 examples of this model were produced by the Manufacture in 2000, making it a collector’s item. It is estimated to bring $54,000 to $64,000 on auction day.
The A-auction of September 25th, Antiquorum’s version of an e-auction, will include an array of collectible wristwatches spanning past decades. Many watches will be offered without reserve, representing an excellent opportunity for all types of collectors.
The printed catalogue for the sale of the 24th, together with the e-catalogue for the A-auction will be posted on Antiquorum’s site approximately 2 weeks before the auction. Once the catalogue is available on www.antiquorum.com clients can register for online bidding. With the use of a paddle and a PIN number, clients have the option of placing absentee bids before the auction or bidding interactively on auction day. For the A-auction, faxed absentee bids are also accepted.
For those collectors who are simply interested in following the auction lot by lot, a live internet broadcast will take place on auction day. This service is free of charge and no advance registration is required.
