The famous Swiss retailer has been producing watches since 1919 and the name “Bucherer” is well-known amongst watch collectors. In 2001, the watch division of the Swiss family-owned Bucherer Group was renamed “Carl F. Bucherer”. Ever since, Carl F. Bucherer has taken one ambitious step after the next to distinguish itself as a fine watchmaker.

In July 2007, Carl F. Bucherer made a substantial purchase and integrated a research and movement production workshop in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland. With over 20 watchmakers on staff, the following year, Carl F. Bucherer launched its own high-grade CFB A1000 Manufacture caliber. The CFB A1000 is a hand-windable automatic movement. The movement features three patents for a bi-directional peripheral rotor, a dynamic shock system and a fine adjustment system that only needs to be calibrated once. From there, Carl Bucherer adds modules to create some practical complications such as a Big Date and Calendar, and with more complications anticipated in the near-future.

Ron Stoll, President of Carl F. Bucherer NA, and his daughter Emily give Timezone an extensive introduction to the brand, including a look at the latest in the classically styled Manero collection and contemporary styled Patravi collection. Since our meeting took place over the summer, a number of timepieces were prototypes and, therefore, some of the casebacks are engraved “Proto”; however, all models in this preview are now in production.

The Manero CentralChrono is a handsome automatic chronograph with a central minutes hand. The timepiece is fitted with a Calibre CFB 1967, which is a highly modified ETA-based chronograph with Dubois Depraz module. The case measures 42.5 mm.

The Patravi TravelTec is a chronometer certified chronograph that displays three different time zones. The Calibre 1901.1 is a patented movement that is integrated into the case. The pusher at 10 o’clock controls a switch mechanism to control the instant display of a third time zone. Another practical feature is that the date can be set either forwards or backwards. The case measures 46.6 mm.
