New Model – CHRONODECO “Era” Chronograph

Chronodeco is a small American company that custom builds watches using the finest Swiss and German parts.

Its founder, S. Craig Bergsma, is a metallurgical engineer by profession, who became a watch maker due to his watch obsession (we all can relate to that!). Mr. Bergsma is now a self-taught watchmaker with over 500 vintage watch restorations.

In 2001 he created Chronodeco, and after a 2002 article was published in International Wrist Watch magazine, his first line of watches, the Metropolis, was completely sold in less than 30 days!

More recently, he wanted to create a new watch powered by the Valjoux 7750 automatic movement. He sent letters to companies in Switzerland and did not receive a single reply. A watch friend suggested he contact RGM in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to see if they could help him with his my new project. Mr. Roland Murphy said “no problem, we can do that.” So in late Summer 2002, he flew to Lancaster and discussed his design ideas with RGM.

And so the Era was born!

The Era chronograph is done in a limited edition of 250. The automatic mechanical movement is a modified Valjoux 7750 with only the upper (minutes) & lower (hours) registers used on an original Art-Deco style dial, that is reminiscent of the classic chronographs of the 1930s and 1940s.

The Era has an all stainless steel case, measuring 38.5mm, flat rounded pushers, a screw-on bezel and a scratch proof crystal. The dial is available in 3 designs and/or color combinations. All of them have a red tachymeter (or tachymetre) ”snail” scale in the center and SuperLumiNova markers and hands. Solid hour and minute hands are also available. It has a clear display back with “Era”, “Chronodeco” and logo printed on the inside of the glass, plus the edition number engraved on the outer edge of the screw-down back.

Every watch is custom assembled for each customer dial preference, a process that takes 30 to 45 days from inception to delivery. MSRP is $1,395.00.
