1. Manufacturing of Cases

IWC, from its inception a pioneer in modern equipment capable of producing the finest machined timepieces, relies on an abundance of sophisticated machinery from CAD-CAM designing to multi-million dollar machines with which to produce movement parts, cases and bracelets.

The dimensions of some watch components are extremely small. Parts produced are often measured in 10 thousandths of a millimeter, the computerized machine which produces them turns out 15 a minute. They are produced to strictly controlled tolerances within two thousandths of a millimeter.

One spectacular machine at IWC’s factory, costing about a million Swiss Francs, makes a case in little more than six minutes, machining it both inside and out.
